The meaning of everything
Rick and Morty fans may not want next Sunday to come too quickly. The fourth-season finale airs May 31 on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim at 11:30 p.m. PT. It's titled Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerri, so may the Force be with us all as we face an unknown stretch of time with no new Rick and Morty.
Deciding to leave, Jesus causes the toy train to derail and break.
Show co-creator Dan Harmon said in a video that someone on staff just suggested the idea of Rick getting romantic with a planet and the idea took off from there. But there's a deeper topic to the show.
The May 24 episode, Childrick of Mort, features Rick learning his night of passion with a sentient planet might have made him a daddy again many times over. As that plotline unwinds, Jerry demonstrates his camping skills, Beth bonds with her father, and Summer and Morty save the day. Oh, and Rick fist-fights with a Zeus-like alien.
The latest season of popular battle royale game Fortnite launched on Tuesday, unleashing an alien invasion on the island. Chapter 2 Season 7, dubbed Invasion, brings a new science-fiction them and some exciting crossover characters, most notably Superman and Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty.Notification off Movies Coming in 2022 From Marvel, Netflix, DC and More

"The (episode's) theme is actually parenting," director Kyounghee Lim said in the video.
Players that purchase the Season 7 Battle Pass will get Kymera, a fully customizable alien character, as well as Rick Sanchez from the popular Adult Swim animated series Rick and Morty. Superman will reportedly be the midseason unlockable character, and include his own special challenges later in the season.
It sounds like a pretty smart idea to me, but when the bad guys insist on sitting around and yacking, then calling a "bone scientist" to see if the vat situation checks out, Morty gets furious with Rick. Not only does he hate the acid vat concept, he despises how he's constantly pitching Rick ideas and being ignored. And Morty's got a winner, or so he thinks. He wants Rick to create a device to save your place in life, like in a video game, so you can replay certain events and scenes until you get them just right. Rick first pretends he can't create such an item, but ha ha ha -- who are we talking about here? Of course he makes it, and off Morty goes to try and try again until he gets life right.
Just one of the dimensions Morty finds himself in this episode.

Was really disappointed in this one unfortunately. Started off good, but that 7 minute montage, yes I counted 7, killed it for me. I mean it literally made up almost 1/3 of the episode. It wasn’t funny or interesting. I can appreciate this experimentation though.— Tan (@MarioGengar94) May 18, 2020
By gushing about letting Jesus into their hearts and praying, Rick and Morty do something they would never normally do, causing Story Lord's narrative machine to break down with such an "awful" story.
And Morty and Summer, deprived of their spring-break plans for video game binging and druggie parties, manage to find a crashed spaceship that allows them to get their fill of both those activities. Or so they think. It's through absolutely no skill of their own that they end up saving the day when Rick is losing a fistfight with a Zeus-like god named Reggie.Epic
Frankly, despite being armed with a cool sci-fi device, Morty uses it to reset his life after doing some seriously dumb things. Pulling down his teacher's pants? Pushing an old dude out of a wheelchair? Jumping over a manhole? Chickening out on the high dive? Suicide by cop? But then Morty implausibly lucks out and meets his ideal woman (no, not Jessica), and life's so perfect he doesn't need the reset button. Until Morty and his girlfriend are on a plane that crashes in some snowy mountains, and you remember that everybody who could read in the 1970s and 1980s, including this show's writers, read Piers Paul Read's 1974 book Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors, aka "The Rugby Team Cannibalism Book."
Story Lord describes Rick to a tee: "No rules for you, spiralling through the multiverse, burping semi-improvised dialogue about how nothing matters."
With seemingly no way out, Rick turns to his "best friend and personal savior, Jesus Christ."Movies Coming in 2022 From Marvel, Netflix, DC and More More Rick and Morty
Meanwhile, Jerry's depressed because Morty and Summer have rejected his camping plans and don't want his (actually delicious-looking) s'mores. But when he finds himself stranded with a rejected bunch of the Rick-like kids, he discovers that some creatures will actually listen to and respect him -- just not his own offspring. Like Jerry himself, this plot was the dud of the episode.
As usual, a new season means a new map, new weapons and new vehicles. In Chapter 7, players will be able to shoot down flying saucers or hijack them to take control and fly around the island.
"We were literally saved by Jesus Christ, tell me in any way how that's offensive," Rick says when Morty worries if that's too cynical and offensive.
We see an ad for the Citadel of Ricks story train that Morty bought, a toy targeted at Ricks tired of their adventures with "dog shit" Mortys.
It comes with car after car of enemies, lovers and Goomby, "all grappling with the nature of who you truly are."
The episode, spoofing NeverEnding Story's title, is set on a train -- in space. The setting, as Rick notes, represents a literal story device, charting us on course for a breakneck-paced self-referential anthology episode.
But for fans, Never Ricking Morty serves to put to bed some of the arguments around the show. While the episode's hard-to-follow jumps through space and time ultimately don't lead to any clear message, it addresses the notion of canon, fan-service and whether the show makes fun of Christianity.

Most shows might end it there, but this is Rick and Morty we're talking about. Either you're exhausted, impressed or just along for the hilarious ride.
In the first episode of season four, Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat, Rick introduces Morty to special alien crystals that can show him his death, which is a really bad idea. In the second, The Old Man and the Seat, we learn Rick really, really likes his special toilet. After cracking a joke about the ticket inspector's upper half floating by, Rick and Morty decide from now on to have good old-fashioned fun, not overthink things and keep the rest of the adventure grounded and fully immersive.

Titled Rick and Morty: The Anime, the show is being directed by Tower of God director Takashi Sano. Sano's previous credits also include Lupin the Third and two Rick and Morty animated shorts. While no plot has been revealed, the show will consist of 10 episodes and will air on both Adult Swim and HBO Max.
The episode begins on the space-train, where two travelers meet at the bar. One of them, who looks like an alien version of Wolverine, details how he fought Rick on his planet Ramamama (it sounds like it's spelled that way).

It's fun to see the whole family back in action in Childrick of Morty, though I still think The Vat of Acid episode from last week is by far the best Rick and Morty offering of season 4. Summer, Beth and Jerry are fun, but the show's called Rick and Morty for a reason, and the two title characters don't get to interact much this time around.Watch this:

"We got all that meta canon shit out of the way and now we can just be ourselves," Rick says.
The teaser released after the May 24 episode didn't deliver any Star Wars spoilers -- but it did hearken back to a previous hit episode. Remember in the Pickle Rick episode, when Rick turns himself into a pickle so he won't have to go to family therapy with Dr. Wong (voice of Susan Sarandon)? In the finale teaser, Beth brightly suggests the Sanchez-Smith crew head in for another therapy session.
Just like the finale, most of the season four second-half episodes seem to be named after movies. The complex and controversial Never Ricking Morty started things off, and was a play on The NeverEnding Story. The next one, Promortyus, was an homage to the 2012 sci-fi movie Prometheus, and was set in the Alien movie universe, complete with face-huggers, parasitic egg implantation and, for some reason, an M&Ms store. The Vat of Acid episode -- well, maybe it wasn't a movie title, but it certainly lived up to its promise, bookending the story with two vats of (fake) acid. And Childrick of Mort took its name from the 2006 sci-fi film Children of Men, about a world facing extinction due to infertility, and features Rick discovering he may have a ton of other children.Notification on Rick and Morty season 4, episode 7 recap: Facehugging aliens have feelings too

The Rick and Morty spinoff joins a roster of Toonami original anime on Adult Swim, which already includes Fena: Pirate Princess, Blade Runner: Black Lotus and the upcoming Uzumaki and Housing Complex C, debuting later in 2022.
Before the May 3 show, five episodes of season 4 aired, and they were pretty much standalone shows, meaning they're fun to watch, but don't necessarily move the show forward in any lasting way. (Which, with a show like this, is just fine. This isn't X-Files.)
There's an iconic Reddit story about a guy who was knocked unconscious and imagined a whole new life for himself while he was out cold. When he wakes up, it's as if he's been robbed of 10 years of life and ripped away from the happy family he imagined having during that time. Morty's relationship with his girlfriend plays out like that. Despite the airplane cannibalism and some seriously nasty bloody fingers, things are looking good for him for once. Until Jerry (it's always Jerry) resets Morty again, and now he can't get the girlfriend to give him the time of day.
We then cut to a "human moment" where Rick, Morty and the Smith family are seeing Summer off to college.
What we know about the next episode
Correction, April 21: Adult Swim's parent channel is the Cartoon Network.
Story Lord and Jesus reflect on their lives in the toy train, how it's enough to make them question all of existence.
They then have to tell a story that passes the Bechdel Test. Morty loses his oxygen source, but Rick, notably saving Morty again, gives Morty his oxygen so that he can improvise the story. He tells one about Summer and their mom defeating female space-scorpions, without talking about men.
Rick loves it, because Morty did the "most important thing." He fulfilled his purpose in life, that is to "buy and consume merchandise."
When and where to watch?
Fans waited five months for the fourth season to return, and it's hard to believe it's almost done. Five episodes of season 4 aired in 2019, and now that four episodes of the final five have been shown, there's just one left. So the May 31 season finale is the tenth show of season 4, but just the fifth new episode of 2020. Old episodes can be watched on Hulu, but season 4 shows won't appear there until after the entire season airs.Rick and Morty: How to watch the upcoming season 4 finale
And so it is, at least for two of the show's three plots. In one, Rick teams up with daughter Beth, who doesn't want to see her dad's supposed new children neglected the way she was. The two work together to direct the careers and futures of the race of apparent Ricks, with Beth and her dad relating in a way they seldom have in the past. There may be questions about who fathered the Rick-like creatures, but there's no doubt that Beth is her crazy yet capable father's daughter.

After over four months, the long wait for the second half of Rick and Morty's fourth season is over. Arriving during lockdown, the new episode, titled Never Ricking Morty, actually references the coronavirus, joining the first wave of TV shows to reflect the current social distancing reality.
How to catch up Adult Swim
Rick and Morty fans who complained about the meta, fourth-wall-breaking concoction that was Never Ricking Morty can now kick back with a pickle and some interdimensional cable and relax. Episode 8, The Vat of Acid Episode, proves the Adult Swim animated comedy is back in a hilarious, creative groove. Just when the episode seemed to be about one inventive, goofy plot, it seamlessly switched to another. Stop reading if you haven't watched the May 17 episode yet, because here come the spoilers.
Rick and Morty made its debut in 2013, introducing viewers to its mad scientist grandpa, his sidekick grandson and the Smith family. Since then, the show's racked up two Emmy awards and wrapped its fifth season in 2021, with season 6 set to drop this year.
If you've watched the preview from last week, you know the setup. Rick warns Morty that if a crystal-trading deal goes wrong, he needs to jump into the same vat of acid that Rick jumps into, which WHAAAAA? But it's just another day for the grandson of Rick Sanchez, because Rick has a wonderfully elaborate fake vat of acid, complete with breathing tubes, microphones to hear what people on the surface are saying and fake bones that float up to make it appear that R&M have disintegrated right off this mortal coil. Now playing:
We then see a few clips of Rick and Morty's musical moments, featuring a cameo from Birdperson.
But there's no time to sit around and soak in the vat of acid. Another new episode, called Childrick of Mort, airs May 24, and after that, there's just the May 31 season-four finale to anticipate before another break.Rick and Morty recap: In Childrick of Mort, big daddy Rick fights a god 6:21
The makers of the episode seem to like it, too. Co-creator Dan Harmon says in a video that he's "very proud of that episode," and can't seem to stop himself from laughing as he recalls the writers' room discussions. (Apparently director Jacob Hair added the whole plane-crash sequence to fill out an episode that was too short, so kudos to him for reading Alive in middle school.) And show co-creator Justin Roiland, who voices both Rick and Morty, said on Twitter on Sunday night that this episode is his favorite of the new batch of shows.

While Rick and Morty has been on hiatus, the real world has gone almost as nuts as the surreal world of the Adult Swim animated show. If only somebody had a Meeseeks in our world, so we could ask the little request-fulfilling blue dudes to cure the novel coronavirus. But it always helps to have something to look forward to in tough times, and at least we can count off the days on a calendar (remember, that big empty thing that used to be full?) until the season finale of Rick and Morty episode airs on May 31.
It's going to be interesting to see if there's any Star Wars jokes or parodies that show up. The show's logline doesn't give anything away. All it says is, "Parenting is crazy broh. Stuff straight disappearin in this one."
Rick and Morty walk across the outside of the space-train until they find the "thematic seal," big glowing gold rings with Middle-earth-like symbols. To disrupt it, they have to tell a story unrelated to them. We then see Morty's story -- as improvised as the intergalactic cable episode.
This episode's pretty much a winner from first acid-vat-jump to last, with a mix of gross-outs, laugh-out-louds, and even a little heartwarming sentiment, all stacked up like the Pringles Flavor Stack Rick and Morty keep advertising.
(Warning: Spoilers ahead for the May 24 episode of Rick and Morty.) The Sanchez-Smith family start off Sunday's new Rick and Morty episode, Childrick of Mort, all together as a family, as dad Jerry drags them off on a family outing. But this ain't the Brady Bunch's camping episode. Jerry's dream gets derailed when it turns out that Rick once had, uh, sexual congress with a sentient planet, and the planet now wants its alleged baby daddy to show up and represent.
The May 17 show was called The Vat of Acid Episode, and proved true to its name by featuring multiple vats of acid. Rick comes up with a fake acid vat to get the two out of a jam, but it only makes Morty angry that Rick never chooses to try out his spectacularly stupid ideas, and well, off we go.

Rick and Morty are taking their interdimensional adventures into a new space. Adult Swim has greenlit an anime series featuring the duo, WarnerMedia said Wednesday.
They then encounter blasts from the past -- "the good stuff" -- including Abradolf Lincler, Tammy Guetermann, Phoenixperson, Snowball, Evil Morty, what looks like an Emperor Palpatine version of Mr. Poopybutthole (a nice touch), an army of Roman Centurion Ricks (from the Citadel), an army of Mr. Meeseeks and an army of Gazorpians. It reminds me of Doctor Who's Pandorica conglomeration of favorite aliens.
The May 10 episode, Promortyus, was set in the familiar and creepy universe of the Alien movies. It was a lot more straightforward than Never Ricking Morty, but managed to include a complex and rollicking Rick and Morty adventure that featured everything from a new beekeeping hobby for Jerry to digs at podcasting and print media to a starring role for Summer.
Rick's still about as thrilled about the idea of family therapy as ever. At least this time he chooses an invisibility belt as his way to duck therapy as opposed to that whole complex scheme where he turns himself into a pickle.
Warning: This recap contains all the spoilers.
Rick tells Morty to buy a new one, because "no one's out there shopping with this fucking virus."
Snowball is back.
In the "Change" section of Harmon's story circle, Morty then tries to figure out the purpose of the "confusing" adventure: It brought them closer together and tested their demons.

But when they try to bring the train into the station, they discover that it's not real. We zoom out and see the real Rick and Morty in the Smith family living room, playing with a purple train set that Morty bought from the Citadel of Ricks gift shop.
In the fourth episode, Claw and Hoarder: Special Ricktim's Morty, Morty gets a dragon, which is exactly as much of a bad idea as you might think. And the fifth episode, Rattlestar Ricklactica, features a world of time-traveling space snakes. (And there's snake jazz, which Summer digs.)
Although it's Rick and Morty, so not everyone is going to agree. "Was really disappointed in this one unfortunately," one Twitter user wrote, specifically calling out the Morty and his girlfriend storyline, which features no dialogue, as a disappointment.
Story Lord has been using Rick and Morty to fuel his anthology with their "limitless potential" and take them to the last stop: "beyond the fifth wall" -- which would have to involve co-creator and voice actor Justin Roiland referencing his previous works or real life outside Rick and Morty.
Thanks to the anthology generator, the stories will never end. The characters are alive, but "not in any ways that matter." The advertisement points to its website, story-train.com, which at time of writing... doesn't lead anywhere.
The show's official Twitter account has revealed that the May 31 episode, the tenth and last of the season, is called Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerri. That's a Star Wars-themed title, but right now, it's unclear if Luke and Leia's universe will collide with Rick and Morty's, or if it's just a galactically good play on words.
He then proceeds to beat Rick and Morty up, punching them into different realities where "nothing is canon," including Rick deciding to "help people now."
