Tesla recently retooled the lines for its flagship sedan and SUV and began deliveries of the Model S and Model X Plaid earlier this year, but it's been a slow go. Instead, it appears Tesla's much more focused on cranking out the Model 3 and Model Y, which continue to make up the vast majority of new Tesla deliveries. However, like every other automaker, Tesla continues to work through supply chain challenges and bottlenecks, which likely explains these delivery delays. (It also took an order for a month's worth of production from Hertz.) Should things improve, we'll likely see those wait times diminish.+5 More Roadshow Notification on
That $25,000 Tesla can't come soon enough.
The Emira will be the last internal combustion-powered model to roll out of the factory in Norfolk, England, but as we've said before, it seems as though this will be one hell of a last blast.
The website also noted Tesla actually shut down assembly lines for the two flagship EVs from the automaker in December. Combined with the latest reported information, it certainly sounds like changes are afoot. Tesla does not operate a public relations department to field requests for comment, so as always with these kinds of Tesla rumors, take it all with a grain of salt.
Next, Polestar will shortly offer the 2 with an available mechanical heat pump. This tech will also increase the range for all models by as much as 10% under certain climate conditions. In particular, the pump should help improve cold-weather performance substantially, especially in the 40-to-60-degree range. These are significant benefits for what will likely amount to a minimal increase in cost. This equipment will be available on both the dual-motor and single-motor variants.See all photos Notification on
With the price bumps, the Model 3 Standard Range Plus now costs $500 more across the board, pushing the sedan to $39,690, including the $1,200 destination charge. The Model 3 is a $40,000 car now with this increase, unless you choose white. That keeps the cost under $40,000. Every other color remains a $1,000 option, which pushes the price past $40,000; red remains a $2,000 option. The optional white and black interior also remains a $1,000 option and access to the Full Self-Driving beta, Tesla's Level 2 driver-assist technology, costs $10,000.Notification on +18 More

The final way that Volvo's all-electric spinoff is tackling cost is by making its options list a bit more granular. By this, I mean that the company is breaking options out into more packages, where previously, you had a basic Polestar 2, and then you could spend an extra $5,000 on the Performance Pack version. The new packages are called Plus Pack and Pilot Pack, and they're available on both the single- and dual-motor cars. The former adds that heat pump, a panoramic sunroof, a Harmon Kardon sound system, vegan leatherette upholstery, powered and heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel, while the Pilot pack brings pixel LED headlights and a bunch of driver-assist features like adaptive cruise control with Pilot Assist, blind-spot monitoring and a 360-degree camera. The Performance Pack is sticking around, too, for all you Ohlins damper fiends, and you can also select individual options like ventilated Nappa seats and 20-inch wheels.See all photos Get the Roadshow newsletter
However, if you opt for the 21-inch wheels on the Model S you'll see a slightly better delivery timeframe: November 2022. It's a similar story for the Model X's optional 22-inch wheels, which also brings the estimated delivery date down to a year. Regardless, it's quite a lengthy wait for the electric cars.Tesla Watch this: Tesla Sedans +27 More Sports Cars Cars Lotus Emira V6 First Edition will start at $93,900 in the US, base model just under $75K Hatchbacks Notification on Tesla's new Model X is still a car from the future Watch this: Electric Vehicles See the latest cars and automotive trends from supercars to SUVs. As for the Model Y, the cheapest version remains the Long Range AWD, ringing in at $51,690. The short-lived, off-the-menu Standard Range model is still not listed on Tesla's website. The Model Y Performance, meanwhile, escaped a price bump and still costs $62,190.
All this hotness for under $100,000.
We haven't heard a whole lot about what refreshed Model S and Model X EVs may hold, but a purported sketch supposedly showed what the company concocted for both luxury cars. The rumored redesign looks to include a lot of elements from the Model 3 and Model Y with a more minimalist approach and a massive screen in the center.Watch this:
The remedy shouldn't take too long to fix. According to NHTSA's documents, Tesla service centers will take the recalled vehicles and inspect their frunk latches. If the secondary latch isn't doing its job, Tesla's employees will reassemble and reposition the latch so that it works correctly. As with the Model 3 recall, any owner who paid to have this fixed before the recall can seek reimbursement, and owners should start receiving notifications in the mail in February.Enlarge Image New Lotus Emira: What we've all been waiting for from... How much is that exactly? Try $93,900 for the luxe V6 First Edition before Lotus' destination fees, which are TBA, while "an entry-level Emira coming in 2023" will start at just $74,900, though we don't know what powertrain that will feature. That $93,900 price tag makes the First Edition a little less than $10,000 cheaper than a Porsche Cayman GT4, or around $10,000 more than a C8 Corvette with all the performance options. At that price, the First Edition Emira makes a pretty good case for itself with a 3,000(ish)-pound curb weight, 400 horsepower and one helluva six-speed manual transmission (with exposed shift linkage!).Tesla Tim Stevens/Roadshow All-electric Polestar 2 brings Swedish class to the EV...
The first recall affects 356,309 examples of the 2017-2020 Tesla Model 3 sedan. According to NHTSA's defect report, the issue comes from the coaxial cable that provides the backup camera's feed to the dashboard display in the car. Over time, operating the trunk lid may cause the cable to wear excessively, thanks to a particularly tight bend. If it whittles itself too far down, the backup camera may no longer display on the infotainment screen. This is a problem as the federally mandated backup camera can provide vital information when reversing.
Prospective Polestar 2 owners will have a lot more choice than before when configuring their cars.Electric Vehicles Coupes
The Polestar 2 is a very cool EV. It looks fantastic, it drives exceptionally well, and it has a lovely interior. Unfortunately, its range could be a bit better, and, as with most electric cars, it could stand to be a little cheaper. Luckily, Polestar has a new potential solution, as detailed in an announcement made on Tuesday.
Tesla's service department will be able to remedy the issue. It will inspect each recalled vehicle and replace the cable and install a new guide protector if excessive wear is found. If the examined cable is within specifications, Tesla will simply add the guide protector to reduce the bend angle when the trunk is closed. People who already paid to fix this problem should be able to seek compensation through the automaker. Model 3 vehicles from the 2021 model year onward have already reengineered the harness to eliminate the issue. Owners should receive recall notifications in the mail beginning in February.Polestar

Unfortunately, Polestar isn't quite ready to announce the pricing breakdown for these changes to the 2, but we expect the new numbers will go a long way to making this EV more appealing to more people. The new single-motor Polestar 2 is slated to arrive in showrooms at the end of this year, with pricing and more specific range details expected closer to launch. Now playing: Notification off

Time for changes?
Tesla may finally be nearing a refresh for its oldest cars on sale, the Model S and Model X. According to a report from Electrek on Friday, citing sources familiar with the automaker's plans, Tesla recently told employees to liquidate all Model S and Model X cars currently sitting in the company's inventory, which likely points to refreshed EVs this year.Tesla
Tesla does not operate a public relations department to field requests for comment, so we don't know why the company continues to shuffle prices so often, though it likely has something to do with the global semiconductor chip shortage. We know Model 3 production went offline for a period last month, and the company isn't shielded from the lack of chips plaguing the auto industry (and everyone else, up to and including Apple). Delivery times for the Model 3 and Model Y also remain elongated, due to the shortage, and extend to up to 12 weeks at this point.
The question of cost is being handled in a couple of different ways. The most significant development is the addition of a 231-horsepower, single-motor variant of the Polestar 2 to the lineup (today's existing dual-motor model contains a pair of 204-hp motors, one per axle). Half as many motors means this EV will be less expensive to build, right? This also means that the lighter, single-motor fastback should have a better overall range, even though it has the same 78-kWh battery -- Polestar estimates this to be around 260 miles. That's not quite Tesla range, true, but it's good enough for most people. The new base model also gets some rad seats with "embossed" vegan textile upholstery and 3D-etched door and center console trim.Notification off
Tesla Model S Long Range takes us back to the future

Happy Friday, here's another price increase from Tesla. Electrek first spotted on Tesla's website that the Model 3 and Model Y each received yet another price hike this week, marking the fourth time the company has rejiggered the cost of its two mass-market EVs.26:57
The US Emira First Edition -- like its European counterpart -- comes with the Lower Black Pack, Design Pack, Driver's Pack and Convenience Pack all as standard, which makes for a well-equipped sports car for under $100,000. There will still be options like the six-speed automatic transmission, which will add $2,150 to the final bill. (But don't even consider this unless you are physically unable to drive a manual and can't wait for the AMG-four-cylinder-equipped version with its eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.)Porsche Tesla Model S and Model X base model deliveries slip to 2023 See all photos
In November, Tesla recalled approximate 7,600 examples of the updated Model X and Model S over airbags that might tear when deploying, which can affect their ability to protect passengers. More recently, the automaker ended up under federal investigation for the Passenger Play feature, which allows video games to be played while the vehicles are in motion. The resulting recommendation spurred Tesla to promise a forthcoming software update that would lock the feature unless the vehicle is parked.Polestar
The forthcoming Lotus Emira is hot as hell, and all of us around the Roadshow office are very, very excited to get some seat time in it when it comes out next fall. But until then, we'll content ourselves with the fact that we now -- thanks to an announcement made by Lotus on Friday -- know how much it'll cost in the US.See all photos Performance Vehicles Notification off Notification off
The second recall covers 119,009 examples of the 2014-2021 Tesla Model S hatchback. Here, the problem comes from the frunk's secondary latch, which helps keep the front trunk secure in the event the primary latch opens while the vehicle is in motion. According to the defect report, an improperly aligned latch assembly may prevent the secondary latch from securing, which could cause the frunk to swing open while the vehicle is in motion.
Refreshed Model S and Model X EVs weren't on our what-to-expect list from Tesla in 2021, but they would be a welcome surprise. The cars may feel light-years ahead of other luxury EVs at the moment, but they are starting to look a little dated.
However, if Tesla's determined to sell off its current Model S and Model X stock, there may be some sweet deals afoot. Perhaps we'll see the company sweeten the deal in other ways too with extended free Supercharging or something of the like. We'll have to keep an eye out for any sort of extra incentives, which could be more evidence Tesla's ready to usher in some new, refreshed EVs.Sedans Cars Electric Vehicles +21 More Now playing: Tesla Model S, Model X refreshes inbound as EV selldown starts, report says 6:15
